Facebook and laptops and billboards, OH MY!

How many times have you herd these saying within the last month?
Everywhere you go mass media is following you. Forms of the mass media, such as social media (facebook, twitter, instagram ect), the news, books, can all be accessed and carried around in your pocket. An infinite universe of information all at our finger tips, how exciting! Mass media makes a huge impact on not only my worldview but i personally believe it effects everyone significantly. Think about it... where do you get most of your information from? Whats one of the first things you did this morning. I can only imagine it was picking up your cell phone or lap top, turning on the news or even reading the newspaper. The world as we know it is undergoing continuous transformation due to the impact of media. So how significant do i think the impact of mass media is on my worldview? Simply said, very. I personally think that at this point in society we truly could not survive without the media. Now, i did say mass media poses a big impact on me, but i didn't specify if it was a good or bad thing... truth is mass media has both its good and bad aspects. I could ask you if you wanted the good news or the bad news first (media pun?) however, you, whoever you are, reading this, have no choice, so let me enlighten you with what i think is negative implications of mass media on my world view. Mass media has a tendency to brainwash individuals and promote consumerism. Not that consumerism is always bad (unless your a poor, starving, university student), but the constant need to buy everything all the time, keep up with whats considered 'hip' and 'jive' (do people still use jive?), and the constant brainwashing through mass media to do so assists in creating bad habits on those who are directly effect by it, for example.... me, insert poor girl sad face here. Alternative reason why I think the mass media negatively impacts my world view is the way it imposes stereotypes,  promotes hypersexualization, negative body and I personally feel that humans are losing a sense of face to face interaction. Now to get to the positives (since I have a 500 work cutoff here). Mass media is impacting my worldview and, everyone's for that matter in a positive way through having access to unlimited information, the ability to connect to others far away and network, advocacy and movements through media for change and mass media really helps with development of new technology. Facebook, TV, newspapers, how else would you find out the information you need? Only last week I figured out Miley Cyrus is officially un-engaged to Liam Hemsworth via twitter. How else could i figure out m future boyfriend is now available! To conclude, mass media DOES have a significant impact to my worldview and I feel it is important to understand the implications of it, so that we don't become obsessed and possessed by the different aspects of it.
